CD-Rom drive is not ready

Postby maxspud3 » Wed Nov 07, 2012 9:37 am

I am trying out this program. Each time I put in a cd and try to read it, it says my cd-rom drive is not ready. I play cds in windows media and that program reads them ok. Your program is picking the correct drive letter, any ideas why this is happening please.

Hi,

If you are trying to read cd's that you burn yourself, make sure your cd-burning software adds CD-TEXT. CD-TEXT is a small file added to the CD when it's burned, and holds all of the album information (artist, title, track list, etc). Not all cd-burning software is created equal. For example, Windows Media Player does not support CD-TEXT, but both Nero and iTunes do. Do you have any cd-burning programs that support CD-TEXT?

Otherwise, there are a few different messages you might get when Reading a CD. If you get the "The "CD-ROM drive is not Ready" message, it usually means there is no disc in the CD-ROM, or a different drive letter was selected. Are there any other drive letters you can select when Reading a CD?

The other message you might get is, "The CD does not contain any music tracks". This happens when the CD is not an audio CD. An audio CD is a special format that only has .CDA files. You might get this message if you insert a movie disc, or a data CD with data files. Does your CD have .CDA files on it?

Please let us know if you have any more questions and we'll be glad to help.

I have tried so many discs with this program and every time the program says the cd-rom drive is not ready. Not about to purchase a program that I cannot get to work.

When you open the "Read CD" dialoge, is there more than one drive letter to choose from?
What Operating System are you using?

This is a problem we have not seen before, especially for Windows 7. AudioLabel is currently designed and developed on Windows 7.

It's possible that another program is using the CD-Rom and blocking AudioLabel. Do you have any other music software that is using the CD-Rom at the same time as AudioLabel? Do you have Windows AutoPlay turned on?

Please try this:

1. Make sure Windows AutoPlay is turned off. To turn off AutoPlay, select the "AutoPlay" option from the Windows 7 "Control Panel", and un-check the "Use AutoPlay for all media and devices" checkbox.
2. Re-boot your computer.
3. Start AudioLabel, and try reading a CD without starting any other programs.

Please let us know if this does not fix the problem.

I am having precisely the same problem.
I have followed your suggestions and the they make no difference.
I have just bought an update to Audio Label thinking that it may make a difference but I still get the message.
It doesen't matter whether the disc is a compilation or a commercial product.

HELP!

Hi,

I'll be glad to help. Just a few questions to clarify the problem.

1. Which Windows operating system are you using?
2. What is the model of your cd-rom drive?
3. Is this an internal cd-rom, or an external cd-rom?
4. When did this problem start? Did it ever work?
5. Can you play a music CD , and read files using this cd-rom drive?

Thank you for your prompt reply.

I am no expert so I will do my best to answer your questions.

I am using Windows 7 32 bit

The device is internal

This is interesting! If I click on Computer then DVD drive it lists two ATA devices.
!. Hitachi HDS 725050 KLA 360 It tells me this device is working properly
2. Philips DVD + RW DVD 8801 and this too is working properly.
However if I go into Device Manager it only shows PHILIPS

The computer I am using is a refurbished Dell optiflex and I used to be able to get it to read CD's by clicking on retry.

Everything else works and it plays everything I throw at it.

Thanks for your help

Regards

Tom

Hi,

When you go to "Read CD" in AudioLabel, do you see more than one CD drive listed?
